ALNNJ 2003 Scholarship Awards

The 2003 ALNNJ Scholarship Awards dinner
was held on June 19th at the New Jersey Botanical Garden (NJBG) at Skylands, located in Ringwood, NJ. The NJBG offers the elegance of its Tudor-style manor house, the beauty of its formal and naturalized gardens and the serenity of its gentle woodland paths. The Awards dinner was set at the historic Skylands Manor, a Tudor Revival mansion built in the mid 1920s and designed by John Russell Pope.
This year's entries were reviewed by Frank Cunha III, Helen Logan, and Fay Logan. Below is a brief summary of each award and a statement about each winner:

Clarence Tabor Memorial Scholarship Award.

This award is given to undergraduate students entering their fifth and final year of architecture, and is based on scholastic excellence, attitude toward the profession, probable success as an architect, and need for financial assistance. Unfortunately, we do not have a recipient for this award this year.
I would have like to recommend Roimon Hepburn for an award; however, he does not reside in our territory. Roimon is a student at Hampton University who anticipates graduating in 2005. His portfolio booklet was one of the best submitted. It is unfortunate that he could not be considered for an award. His ability to present his ideas will make him a great designer and a notable member of the architectural community.

Albert O. Halse Memorial Scholarship Award.

This award is given to undergraduate students for excellence in architectural delineation and/or architectural models. Jason Zawitkowski is the 2003 recipient for the Albert O. Halse Memorial Scholarship Award. He is currently an undergraduate Industrial Design Student whose graduate degree will be in Architecture. Jason anticipates graduating in 2007. His innovation and passion for design will drive him to be a creative force within the architecture community.

Architects League Scholastic Achievement Award

This award is given to undergraduate students for scholastic excellence in architectural design. Arianna Sacks is the 2003 recipient for the Architects League Scholastic Achievement Award because of her scholastic excellence in architectural design. She is a student at Cornell University who is on the Dean's List. Arianna anticipates graduating in 2005. She has valuable Power Point presentation skills and 3-D capabilities. She has exhibited herself as a well-rounded young architect that will one day be a valuable asset to the architecture community.
